Rough Diamond

[Verse]

It looked like a piece of molten glass

Thats someone had abandoned

Until cuts revealed surfaces

That light could dance on…

[Interlude

[Verse]

The field removed all obstacles

That blocked the prisms rays

It polished every roughened edge

Brought the light back into phase

I didn’t have to invent any colours

Or command them where to go

My only job?

To become clear enough…

To let the spectrum show

[Pre-Chorus]

Each facet changed the angle

Light refraction shaped the view

The cuts were not destructive

They were shaping something new

[Chorus]

A world of rough diamonds

Waiting to be cut

Waiting to be polished

Waiting for light to shine

And darkness to be abolished

Our latent potential’s

buried deep inside

You gotta cut the surface

many many times

to make a rough diamond…

shine,

shine

shine

[Interlude]

.

[Verse]

The spectrum moves around me

Like a mist of coloured dew

Every colour held together

By a power I never knew

A prism does not own the light

Or choose the colours shown

It simply holds a faithful angle

To a source it cannot own

[Pre-Chorus]

Each facet changed the angle

Light refraction shaped the view

The cuts were not destructive

They were shaping something new

[Chorus]

A world of rough diamonds

Waiting to be cut

Waiting to be polished

Waiting for light to shine

And darkness to be abolished

Our latent potential’s

buried deep inside

You gotta cut the surface

many many times

to make a rough diamond…

shine,

shine

shine.
