Mother's Voice
Intro
Sitting in the cinema as the lights went down,
it was the start of the opening scene
[Verse]
She was twelve years old, when the projector rolled,
and the images flashed onto the screen.
The movie? a fantasy about the second world war,
and even though she was cold,
She sat with eyes glued to the screen,
and watched the drama unfold.
[Pre-Chorus]
When the heroine dies,
it always a defining moment,
one that can leave a lasting impression.
At that point in time she knew for certain.
acting was to be her chosen profession.
[Interlude]
When she told her mother this was her dream,
she was met with laughter and derision
‘It'a a fickle trade, actors don’t get paid,
why suffer for selfish ambition?’
Her mother’s words cut like a sickle,
slicing through blades of wheat
She thought, I would rather be poor,
than be forced to eat someone else’s meat.
[Bridge]
Peering up at the sky, teardrops filling her eyes,
it was finally time for a choice
To follow her heart, and become an actress,
or become a slave to her mother’s voice.
