What if the greatest navigational error is not travelling in the wrong direction, but trying to enter a new world with a vehicle—and a set of coordinates—designed for the old one?
A caterpillar can navigate the surface beneath its feet, but it has no coordinates for the sky. Before it can enter that larger space, it must undergo a transformation that changes not only its body, but its behaviour, senses, intelligence and relationship with the world around it. Crawling must give way to flight.
Yet the life passing through this extraordinary process is never lost.
Pilot Error explores what metamorphosis may reveal about the hidden transformative potential of human beings. Drawing together biology, navigation, scripture, consciousness and the intelligence of living systems, it examines the journey from an inherited trajectory towards an entirely new state of participation.
The book follows the participant beyond the familiar baseline, through the dissolution of No Man’s Land, and into a field where new coordinates and outcomes become possible. Along the way, familiar scriptural images—the narrow gate, being born again, the tearing of the veil, being caught up into the air and knowing a tree by its fruit—become parts of one coherent architecture of transformation.
The central question is not simply whether we are free to move within the world we inherited. It is whether we possess the ability to leave its trajectory and establish another.
A rigid system can preserve its existing form, but only a living system can transform without losing the participant. The caterpillar’s apparent limitations conceal wings, migratory intelligence and access to a world that has always existed above it.
A natural continuation of The Way Home, Pilot Error moves from discovering the point of origin to learning how to navigate from it. It is an invitation to reconsider what human beings are, what may still be latent within us, and how much of reality remains inaccessible until the participant becomes capable of entering it.
The sky was always there.
